An issue with the M1 iMac has just surfaced where users are seeing persistent horizontal lines across the display.

Horizontal Lines Appearing on M1 iMac Display, Most Likely Due to Faulty LCD Panels

Just when you start to think things might have settled down in the Apple camp, a new issue surfaces. This time, the issue is related to the M1 iMac, the one released back in May of 2021.

Some users around the world are reporting that they are starting to see horizontal lines appear on the display and those lines aren’t going away no matter what they did. Reinstalling macOS, restarting the iMac, keeping the computer turned off for an extended period of time does not help at all. The issue is definitely related to hardware.

The strange thing is, this issue is hitting users after the warranty period is over. Which means if you take the M1 iMac to Apple for repair, they are charging a ton of money for the display replacement. However, if you bought Apple’s extended warranty, the company is replacing the display for free.

So far, the M3 iMac remains unaffected by the issue. But, there’s a problem with that assessment, since the M3 model is relatively brand new. If the issue surfaces after a year, the M3 iMac isn’t that old to see the issue. It remains to be seen if Apple has fixed the issue in its latest lineup of iMac or not. Only time will tell.

Currently, Apple isn’t running any replacement or repair program for the M1 iMac. But, if this is a widespread issue, Apple may announce a dedicated program. I really hope they do.
