Planning to buy the new iPad mini 7? Do keep in mind that your Apple Pencil 2 won’t work with it.

In a Rather Strange Move, Apple Drops Support for Apple Pencil 2 Entirely with iPad mini 7

With added support for the shiny new Apple Pencil Pro, Apple made the decision to drop support for Apple Pencil 2 entirely. But hey, you still get support for the USB-C Apple Pencil, and I bet you have plenty of them lying around, right?

So yes, if you’re planning to buy the new iPad mini 7, do keep in mind that the Apple Pencil you’ve been holding on to will not work with it. If you are planning to buy the Apple Pencil Pro, it will cost you $129, which is the same as the older model.

If you look at Apple’s latest lineup of iPads, none of them support the second-generation Apple Pencil. This includes the M4 iPad Pro, M2 iPad Air, the just-announced iPad mini 7 as well as the tenth-generation iPad.

Basically, if you are planning to buy one of the newer models, your second-generation Pencil is going to paperweight at best. I know it’s a wild decision by Apple, given that the first-generation model is still supported by the iPad 10, but it is what it is.

The wild thing is, Apple continues to sell the Apple Pencil 2 on its website for the price of $129 which is the same as Pencil Pro. You would expect Apple to drop the price maybe a little bit, but none of the good stuff is happening.
