Brand-new firmware updates 7B21 for AirPods Pro 2 and 7B20 for AirPods 4 are now available for download.
Apple has Just Released Firmware Update 7B21 for AirPods Pro 2 and 7B20 for AirPods 4
Today is a massive day in terms of software updates. Not only did Apple release iOS 18.2, macOS 15.2 and other beta updates for developers, the company went a mile further by seeding new firmware updates for AirPods, too.
The new updates are available for the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 only. The newly released firmware takes AirPods Pro 2 to 7B21 and AirPods 4 to 7B20.
These updates are available for all variations of the above-mentioned AirPods models. This includes Lightning and USB-C models of AirPods Pro 2, as well as standard and ANC models of AirPods 4.
Though there’s no way to force the update on your AirPods, you can check whether or not the update is already installed.
First of all, connect your AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods 4 to your iPhone and iPad. Then launch the Settings app, tap on AirPods settings at the top, scroll all the way down, and check the version number.
Given the update was released just a while back, I’ll be surprised if you already have it installed on your AirPods. Chances are low, but eventually it will install itself.
There’s a myth floating around that you can leave your AirPods and iPhone on charge together to speed up the firmware update process. If you like, you can give that a shot.
Updates like these usually take a couple of days up to a week to install.
Chances are high this is just a bug-fix update, nothing else. This means you can expect better reliability of your AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 with the new firmware installed.
