Here is everything that is new in the latest iOS 18.2 beta 2 and VisionOS 2.2 beta 1 updates for iPhone and Vision Pro.
From Changes to Camera Control to Ultra-Wide Mac Virtual Display – Here’s Everything New in iOS 18.2 Beta 2 and visionOS 2.2 Beta 1
There are a bunch of great changes in iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 beta 2, and visionOS 2.2 beta 1. There’s a lot to cover in iOS and iPadOS; therefore, I’ll start with visionOS first since it only brings one major change to the table.
visionOS 2.2 Adds Support for Wide and Ultra-Wide Mac Virtual Display
If you use your Vision Pro as a monitor for your Mac, this is a big one. You can finally use the wide and ultra-wide Mac Virtual Display feature, allowing you to extend your display horizontally to fit more windows and applications. It’s like having an ultra-wide monitor, except this one is way better.
With that out of the way, let’s jump into the changes Apple has introduced with iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 beta 2.
Improvements to Camera Control
`Initially launched with limited controls, you can now lock exposure and focus directly from Camera Control. It’s a very handy little change, one that allows you to take more control over the photos and videos you take.
Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus
You can hand off requests to ChatGPT when Siri falls short. However, there’s a limit to how many questions ChatGPT can answer, and the option to ‘Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus’ has been added directly to iOS and iPadOS. Obviously, you need to pay up in order to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus.
Dark Settings App Icons
Big improvements to the icons used inside the Settings app can be seen when the iPhone and iPad are used in dark mode. Looks like someone at Apple realized this needed some work, and they definitely delivered, too.
Big Improvements to Find My and Item Sharing
You can share an AirTag or a Find My compatible device with anyone. However, with iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, you can share the item’s location with a trusted individual or an airline, allowing them to find a lost item if needed. This works by creating a link which can be used and opened on any device, even Windows and Android. Once the item has been found, you can delete the link.
Everything Else
Though small and notable changes, you can now use iPhone Mirroring on the Mac with Personal Hotspot turned on, and Apple has included new Shortcuts actions for the Fitness app.
