The 5x telephoto camera will remain exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in 2025.
Apple isn’t Bringing the 5x Telephoto Lens to Standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim Models
Though this is something to be expected at this point, it is now clear that the 5x telephoto camera won’t be a part of the standard iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 Slim, according to TheElec.
Rumors say that the iPhone 17 Slim will have a single camera lens only, so it’s already safe to assume there won’t be any optical zoom action here.
Also, given how thin the iPhone 17 Slim is supposed to be, 6mm only, there’s not enough room to fit the entire zoom mechanism inside the iPhone anyway.
With iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Apple brought 5x telephoto to both smartphones and didn’t keep it exclusive to the larger one.
The biggest change in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro is how both wide and ultra-wide cameras are now 48 megapixels, which means you get a way sharper image compared to last year’s models.
I sincerely hope the telephoto cameras get a megapixel upgrade too with the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. This will ensure a far more consistent photo experience on the iPhone rather than having a mix of 12, 24, and 48-megapixel images in the gallery.
We only just got the iPhone 16, and we still have a handful of details regarding the next flagship. However, the real focus point is going to be the iPhone 17 Slim, which is said to take the iPhone design language to the next level.
The phone is said to have a 6.6-inch display, the A19 chip, a single 48-megapixel camera, an extremely thin design, etc. Rumors say this iPhone isn’t going to be a top-end model at all, but will lay the groundwork for future models.
