A feature that’s exclusive to iPhone so far, Apple Watch Ultra 3 will be able to send text messages via satellite.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 will be Able to Send Text Messages via Satellite, Will Also Include Blood Pressure Monitoring
When Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity go down, you can send a text message using your iPhone 14 and up via satellite.
This allows you to stay in touch with your loved ones and even call emergency services if needed.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is bringing the satellite texting feature to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 in 2025.
Apple did not update the Apple Watch Ultra this year. Instead, it gave us a black color option. This report makes it clear that Apple will release a proper third-generation Ultra next year.
Even if you’re in the middle of nowhere, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will be able to connect to a satellite above you to send a text message.
Currently, this feature is limited to a select few regions, and Apple doesn’t charge for it either, which is very strange. A good kind of strange.
There is a chance Apple might start charging customers down the line, or maybe never at all. Who knows?
The report also says that Apple is going to bring blood pressure monitoring to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and maybe even the standard model. Both these smartwatches will come out in 2025.
Lastly, Apple is going to stop using Intel cellular modems in Apple Watch and transition to a modem from MediaTek. This will bring 5G to Apple Watch, but obviously at slower speeds.
Given Apple is working on its own 5G modem, I’m curious to see if the modem will make it to the Apple Watch lineup as well sometime down the line.
