A useful and handy little app called Mist lets you download any macOS installer or IPSW firmware file in just a few clicks.

There are a bunch of reasons why you’d want to download the macOS installer or IPSW file. Mainly because you want to install a fresh copy of macOS on your desktop or laptop.
The process is not that straightforward, and you really have to do some hunting around to get these install or firmware file download links. Thankfully, some third-party services and websites do the legwork for us and provide links where needed.
A simple app for the Mac called Mist makes the process even simpler. Once you download and install it on your Mac, you can download the macOS installer or IPSW firmware file right away.
The app is not limited to the latest version of macOS and it goes all the way back to Mac OS X Lion.
As long as the update is sitting on Apple’s servers, you can download it using Mist.
If you have an Apple silicon Mac, you can use the IPSW file to perform a clean installation using the official Apple Configurator app.
In fact, if you put your Mac in DFU mode and connect it to another Mac, you can use Finder to restore it too, just like how you would an iPhone or iPad.
