A new report sheds light on the rumored HomePod with a built-in display, and says it will launch year.
HomePod with 7-inch Display, A18 Chip and Apple Intelligence is Going to be Competitively Priced
The report comes from DigiTimes, and they say Apple’s new HomePod will have a built-in 7-inch display, something which has already been said many times before.
Another thing of note is the A18 chip, which automatically means we can expect some form of Apple Intelligence features from the device, which may come in handy for some people.
The report says Apple is planning to use a LCD panel in this HomePod and aims to reasonably price the product compared to the competition.
This means Apple is definitely looking to dip its toes into the smart display market, which is currently dominated by products from Nest and Amazon.
While having a smart display seems like a good idea, but many people just end up using them as picture frames at best. Apple really has to stand out by doing something no one has done before.
As someone who has owned a couple of smart displays, I’m not too enthusiastic about the one from Apple. I would rather have an iPad lying around than a smart display sitting in the corner of a room.
This smart display really, really needs to stand in some way before it can be deemed useful. So far, the reports haven’t given us anything exciting.
