We’ve heard it before, and it has surfaced once again – the iPhone 18 Pro will have a variable aperture camera.

iPhone 18 Pro is Going to Feature a Variable Aperture Camera, Part Supplier is BE Semiconductor

Back in November, Ming-Chi Kuo shared an interesting rumor saying that the iPhone 18 Pro will have a variable aperture camera.

Today, he’s back with the same rumor, but this time it’s backed up by the company that will actually be supplying the aperture system – BE Semiconductor.

The camera itself will have a 48-megapixel sensor and is being referred to as ‘Fusion camera.’ Given the amount of things the camera will do, the name seems appropriate.

Having a variable aperture is going to open up a world of possibilities on the iPhone, especially when it comes to video recording.

When the sun is harsh and you want to make things as cinematic as possible, a higher aperture value means users will be able to drop shutter speed and get that motion blur effect going, something that otherwise requires an ND filter.

Given how popular the iPhone cameras have become, with movies like 28 Years Later also being shot on one, it only makes sense for Apple to add features like these to lure people in.

And of course, the variable aperture will be beneficial in photography as well. Since the iPhone camera sensor has gotten bigger with time, it’s easy to miss focus, especially if you’re taking a photo of something at arm’s length.

With a higher aperture value, you can keep more things in focus at a time.

As fantastic this rumor sounds, and it definitely is, the iPhone 18 Pro is still far away from being released. Expect it to be announced no sooner than September 2026.
