After using it for a long time, I’ve realized how meaningful the Photos app in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 is, and I can’t go back.
Photos in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Focuses on Your Past Memories, I am Glad this Change Exists (at Least for me)
I have more than 50,000 photos and close to 6,000 videos saved on iCloud. Going through them isn’t something I do on a regular basis.
Honestly, no one has enough time to scroll up just a little to see photos and videos from a couple of months back either.
To ensure you relive your past memories, Apple had a ‘For You’ tab in the Photos app. And I am fully aware of the times I ignored that tab for no reason at all.
I had to be lured in with a push notification that said I had a new memory. Most of the time, it was ignored too.
When Apple merged everything into one view with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, I wasn’t too keen at first. Now that my memories, featured photos, trips, and more are front and center, I totally get why Apple made this move.
Because it makes perfect sense. Every now and then I will scroll down just a little to see what my iPhone and iPad have to show me, and it’s always spot-on.
Instead of taking me to the For You section, it has come to me instead in the most meaningful way. And I have no shame in admitting it is one of the smartest moves ever.
The Photos app is no longer a space for tossing photos and videos; it’s now a proper place to relive them.
Sure, some people may not like the change at all, but if you have too many photos and videos like I do, it will start to make sense to you too.
