Rumors say Apple is working on a search engine. But it’s not happening, and here’s why, according to Eddy Cue.
Court Documents Reveal Apple Does Not Want to Build a Search Engine of its Own
Google pays Apple $20 billion to be the default search engine on iPhone, iPad and Mac. For this reason, the company is under investigation by the DOJ.
During the investigation, a lot of interesting tidbits have started to appear. One of them is why Apple is not building its own search engine.
And the reasons come from Eddy Cue himself, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services.
There are three reasons in total, and all of them are pretty interesting. It gives you a glimpse into how Apple works too.
Reason number 1 is very simple: Apple doesn’t want to focus on creating something that will take years and billions of dollars. Apple wants to stay focused on growth areas and does not want to put capital and employees into a search engine.
Reason number 2 makes sense too: creating a search engine is economically risky, especially given the strides happening in the artificial intelligence space.
Lastly, Apple says making a search engine means selling targeted ads, something that is not a core business of Apple.
Despite all this, I’m sure many people out there want Apple to build a search engine anyway. Even I want it to happen.
But, it’s clear Apple doesn’t want to do it, and keeping your hopes up for it is not a good idea either.
