The new iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3 Sequoia updates enable Apple Intelligence automatically.
With iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3, Apple Intelligence will be Turned on Automatically
Whether you use Apple Intelligence or not is entirely up to you.
However, with iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3, Apple’s AI features will turn on automatically.
When you’re setting up your iPhone, iPad, and Mac for the first time and your device is compatible with Apple Intelligence, AI will be turned on for you automatically.
I’m sure Apple is super enthusiastic about its AI and wants everyone to use it, but I think enabling it automatically may be a step too far.
The thing is, while AI is great and all, and I’m sure many people use it day in and day out, but those who don’t will never realize how much space it’s occupying in the background.
Yes, it’s a lot. All 7 gigabytes of it.
It’s better to just ask the user during the onboarding process whether or not they want to use it.
Thankfully, you can disable Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac in a few easy steps. I’ve covered them here.
All AI features may not sit well with users, and it would be a great move by Apple if it allowed users to turn off some features and free up some space instead. Right now, either you have it all or none of it.
A middle ground would go a long way for users.
