A well-known Apple analyst says that the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup won’t feature a smaller Dynamic Island.
Dynamic Island in iPhone 17 Lineup will be ‘Largely Unchanged’ and Will Likely be Similar to iPhone 16
One of the changes rumored for the iPhone 17 lineup is a smaller Dynamic Island. Though the current one looks fine, a smaller one will definitely sit well with buyers.
However, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 will indeed ship with a Dynamic Island like the iPhone 16, but it will not be any smaller and will be ‘largely unchanged.’
There was a rumor floating around that Apple may be working on a new “metalens” technology to make the Dynamic Island smaller, but it is not happening this year.
Though Ming-Chi Kuo kept things nice and simple in his post, and it’s hard to decipher anything further, there is still a chance Apple might make the Dynamic Island smaller.
But, the change could be so little that it will look ‘largely unchanged.’
This reminds me of the time when Apple announced the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max with a ‘smaller camera area.’
I’m talking about the notch here, in case you’re wondering.
That change was a noticeable one. However, it did not add any value to the iPhone’s display itself. But with the jump to Dynamic Island, Apple utilized the cutout in the best way imaginable.
Even if the Dynamic Island gets smaller, I don’t think it will deliver that big of an impact, unless you absolutely want a cleaner display because you can’t stand the sight of a cutout floating around while watching a video.
We are quite far from the iPhone 17 launch, and I’m sure we will hear more about the Dynamic Island along our journey.
