When the next iPhone SE comes out, the Home button era will come to an end at Apple.

Steve Jobs While Introducing the First iPhone – the Home Button Takes You Home from Wherever You Are

A big touch-screen display and Home button at the bottom was the iconic look of the iPhone. Slowly and gradually, Apple changed it with the launch of iPhone 5s.

With iPhone 5s, the Home button was no longer concave; it was flat and housed a fingerprint sensor underneath.

With time, the Home button changed some more. It was no longer an actual button, but instead a solid-state one. This happened with the launch of the iPhone 7.

With iPhone X, Apple introduced its plan to do away with the Home button and introduced gestures. This all happened right next to the iPhone 8 that still had a Home button.

Eventually, people got used to gestures. But the Home button stayed in the background, lurking on devices like the iPhone 8 and then the iPhone SE.

Today, every single iPad has lost the Home button. The iPhone will lose it too when Apple announces the successor to the iPhone SE 3 in March.

The moment Apple shows the new iPhone SE to the world, it will be the most exciting thing ever because Apple’s cheapest phone will embrace its modern design language.

With that, the Home button era will completely come to an end, along with Touch ID on iPhones.

I still remember how Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone, and what he said about the Home button – “We call it the Home button. It takes you home from wherever you are.”

This year, the Home button will pack its bags and take its ride back home. It is an era that will be missed by many.
