According to a new report, the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature 12GB of RAM instead of 8GB.
Both iPhone 17 Pro Models will Ship with 12GB of RAM this Year, A Big Upgrade Over Current 8GB Models
With iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple started shipping 8GB of RAM for the first time. This enabled features like Apple Intelligence, and of course, better multitasking performance.
It seems like Apple is set to make another leap in RAM this year.
According to analyst Jeff Pu (via 9to5Mac), in a note to investors, Apple is going to ship the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with 12GB of RAM this year. That’s a huge step up from 8GB.
The interesting thing is, the bump in RAM has been rumored before as well. But that rumor said only the Pro Max will get the RAM upgrade, while the Pro will ship with 8GB.
For the longest time, Apple had been shipping its notebooks with 8GB of RAM as well, but it now ships its base Macs with 16GB as standard. It likely means Apple needs more memory to keep AI and everyday tasks running together smoothly on the iPhone as well.
But, at the same time, you can dismiss that thought, since the base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will ship with just 8GB of RAM.
No issues with AI slowing things down there?
Unless Apple is planning to ship the Pro models with exclusive AI features that simply require more RAM to work.
There’s another thing we should consider: Apple is rumored to market the 17 Pro as your only video camera later this year, so maybe we’ll find something in that area.
