The Cupertino giant has a new strategy in place for the M5 and it is going to roll out its new chip differently than M4.
Apple’s M5 Chip will Debut in the MacBook Pro First, iPad Pro Later
M4 came as a surprise to everyone since it first debuted on the iPad Pro in May 2024. You expect the chip to show itself in some Mac refresh because it’s an M-series chip. But that didn’t happen at all.
With M5, Apple is taking a different approach than last year.
According to Bloomberg, the M5 chip is going to make its debut in the MacBook Pro this fall, and then it will make its way to the iPad Pro. And while this plan does make sense, there is one thing potential buyers of the iPad Pro must consider; the amount of time the M4 model is going to stick around for.
See, the iPad Pro is not refreshed every 12 months. Apple takes up to 18 months to release a new model. So, given the M4 iPad Pro is not even a year old at this point, and the new M5 is expected to debut in the MacBook Pro this fall, therefore the current iPad Pro is going to be here for a while.
According to the report, the new iPad Pro is expected to debut in the first half of 2026.
Another thing worth noting here is that the M5 chip is going to be based on the 3nm process by TSMC. The chip is definitely going to be faster than M4, but don’t expect a massive leap forward.
A previous report said that the M5 iPad Pro will go into production in the second half of 2025 and will become available later this year.
So, should you buy the iPad Pro now or wait till the end of the year, or the next one? I honestly can’t say at all. Because this report puts the iPad Pro in a strange position.
