You have the choice to disable ‘Follow Up’ suggestions in the stock Mail app for iPhone and iPad devices.

Old Emails Bothering You in Mail up with ‘Follow Up’ Reminders? Disable the Feature on iPhone and iPad

Sometimes you send or receive an email and forget to follow up later. To ‘fix’ this issue, Apple has introduced a new ‘Follow Up’ feature in the Mail app for iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.

If there’s an email that requires a follow-up, the Mail app will bring the email to the top of the inbox and ask you to take action on it, or not. It’s entirely up to you.

It’s a suggestion, that’s all.

However, sometimes you don’t want the Mail app to bring up old emails from time to time.

Not every email needs a follow-up, and if that’s bothering you on your iPhone and iPad in Mail, then you will be pleased to learn that you can disable this feature right now.

Step 1. Launch the Settings app.

Step 2. Right at the top you will see a search bar. Type in ‘Mail.’

Step 3. Open Mail at the very top.

Step 4. Scroll down a little and you’ll see a toggle switch for Follow Up Suggestions. Simply disable it as shown in the screenshot below.

See, not that difficult at all.

From now on, old emails won’t randomly crawl to the top of your Mail inbox to remind you of a follow up.

Apple made this feature with great intention, and it has been spot on for me every single time. Come what may, this feature stays on for me.

This feature comes in handy when your work life involves way too many emails.

I will not recommend turning the feature off unless you really have to.

Though many people do not use the Mail app and go for third-party options, it is quite surprising how good the stock email app has become.

I have been using Gmail for a very long time but started to realize how much cleaner and nicer Mail is, especially on iPad.

I’ll probably just switch over entirely to Mail in the coming weeks. I need consistency across my Apple devices.
