More iPhone 17 details have emerged just now, and it seems like Apple is all set to drop titanium in favor of aluminum.
Apple Plans to Go Back to Aluminum with iPhone 17 Lineup, will Ship All Models with 35W Wired Charging
According to supply chain analyst Jeff Pu (via MacRumors), Apple is going to drop the use of titanium in its iPhone lineup in favor of aluminum. This change will be seen on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Interestingly, this is news that has been floating around for quite a while.
However, the iPhone 17 Air will likely have a titanium frame. It makes sense too, because if someone is going to make a phone just 5.5mm thin, you need to reinforce it properly.
The move to aluminum will definitely bring the weight of the iPhone lineup down too. And it will help Apple reach its carbon-neutral goal as well. After all, titanium does have a larger carbon footprint compared to aluminum.
The analyst also said that Apple is going to ship all iPhone 17 models with 35W wired charging speeds. If you know a thing or two about charging, then you already know that these charging speeds are same-ish compared to the current lineup.
The thing is, the current lineup is very inconsistent when it comes to charging speeds. While the standard models, iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, top out at 20W speeds, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will hit top speeds of up to 35W. The former peaks at 23W, in case you’re wondering.
If the base model iPhone 17 ships with 35W charging speeds, it’s good news for those who aren’t planning to spend top dollar on a phone from Apple this year.
