I’m actually quite surprised that people didn’t know this until this point whenever they turned on Low Power Mode on iPhone.
Low Power Mode Takes Away Around 50% of Your iPhone Performance When Enabled
Low Power Mode is a great way to get through the day on a single charge. And Apple says it turns off a bunch of features to make sure your iPhone lasts longer.
Features like ProMotion, background app refresh, etc., are turned off to preserve battery life.
However, and I was 100% sure people knew this until this point, that Low Power Mode actually slows down your iPhone in order to get you battery gains.
No, I’m serious. It literally slows down your iPhone by around 50%. You can take a Geekbench score and see for yourself. Thankfully, 9to5Mac did all the legwork for everyone to see.
An iPhone 16 Pro Max has a single core score of 3,341 and a multi-core score of 8,270. The moment you turn on Low Power Mode, those scores drop to 1,384 and 4,093, respectively.
It always bothers me whenever someone uses Low Power Mode on the latest iPhone models, especially when the battery is charged all the way to 100%. Unless you’re far away from a power outlet, it makes sense, but if you bought the latest-and-greatest in terms of speed just to slow it down on purpose, then maybe start carrying a battery pack with you all the time.
