The Apple Watch Ultra 3, which is all set for release this year, is going to feature 5G connectivity and satellite texting.

Apple Set to Bring 5G Connectivity and Satellite Texting to Apple Watch Ultra 3 this Year

We didn’t get a new Apple Watch Ultra last year, but we did get a new black color option. This year, things are going to change for the better.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is going to launch the Watch Ultra 3 this year, and there are going to be two massive upgrades which outdoor adventurers are going to love.

First is support for 5G connectivity, a feature which can’t be pulled off on an Intel modem, hence the shift to MediaTek.

I’m quite certain Apple has its own modem planned for Apple Watch down the line to replace MediaTek as well.

Secondly, satellite texting is also coming to Apple Watch Ultra 3, a feature which iPhone users have been enjoying since iPhone 14 days.

Rather than just send out emergency text messages, Apple Watch Ultra will be able to send text messages to any contact at all when away from cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity using satellite connectivity.

I’m sure a lot of users are going to be more interested in 5G support on Apple Watch. But do keep in mind that this is going to be the most basic form of 5G, don’t expect ultra-fast speeds or mmWave at all.

The purpose is to keep you connected to a cellular tower when your iPhone is not with you, something which 4G LTE does quite well too. But since LTE is aging really fast, hence the jump to 5G makes a lot of sense.
