If the latest rumor surrounding the foldable iPhone is anything to go by, it’s going to be amazing and very expensive at the same time.
Apple Foldable iPhone Might be Priced Around $2,000, Will Feature a Book-Style Design with a Crease-Free Inner Display
Ming-Chi Kuo has shared some predictions regarding the foldable iPhone Apple is working on, and there are a bunch of interesting things in here.
Apple is likely going to pitch the foldable as a ‘true AI-driven’ phone. Since the larger display will allow for apps and an AI chatbot to run side-by-side for an enhanced overall experience.
When it comes to price, the first foldable is going to be very expensive and will be targeted towards the loyal fanbase. Apple may charge up to $2,500 for it. If we’re lucky, maybe just $2,000.
The foldable will have a book-style design, which means there are going to be two displays. The outer display will be 5.5 inches in size, while the display inside will be 7.8 inches without a crease.
There are going to be dual rear cameras on the device, and one front-facing camera that will be used when the device is used in folded or unfolded positions.
In terms of thickness, this device will be 9-9.5mm thick when folded and razor-thin unfolded, measuring between 4.5-4.8mm.
Since the device is going to be very thin, Apple is going to use a very high-density battery, likely the one it is planning to use in the rumored iPhone 17 Air.
Interestingly, the foldable will rely on Touch ID for authentication. There won’t be any Face ID here, likely due to space constraints.
It makes me wonder if this device will have any sort of MagSafe capabilities as well.
The report goes on to say that Apple will finalize the specs of the device in the second quarter of 2025, and production will happen in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The same report also says that Apple is going to work on the second-generation version of its foldable, with mass production set for the second half of 2027.
I have a lot of things to say, but I’m going to hold back until we have a couple more rumors surrounding this device. It feels like something just doesn’t add up here.
