Apple is going to release a large foldable iPad next year, and that device is rumored to run macOS instead of iPadOS.

Apple’s Huge 18.8-inch Folding iPad is Likely Going to Run macOS Instead of iPadOS

In late 2026 or early 2027, Apple is set to launch two foldable devices. One is the folding iPhone, and the other is a massive folding iPad.

The first one has been talked about for quite some time now, while details on the folding iPad are somewhat scarce.

What we do know is that this folding iPad-like device will have a massive 18.8-inch display. But analyst Jeff Pu has added some information on top of that and says this device will likely run macOS, not iPadOS.

In other words, this is going to be Apple’s first-ever touch-screen Mac, if this information is true.

If Apple is really going to target the laptop audience with this device, then it makes perfect sense that it will run macOS. But releasing macOS in such an unusual form factor is surprising.

But, we’re talking about Apple here. It’s likely the company wants to do something special when it releases its first touch-screen Mac, and what better way to do it than like this, right?

While this news is definitely exciting, I will still suggest taking it with a grain of salt. Wild reports and speculations like these show up from time to time, there’s a chance this one belongs in that category as well.

But I’ll wrap things up by saying it’s an extremely exciting bit of news. This is the first time ‘macOS’ will run on a device that’s other than a laptop and a desktop.
