In terms of design, Apple is set to go big with iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 this summer. The biggest since iOS 7.

Apple is Going to Give the iPhone, iPad and Mac a Massive Design Overhaul with iOS 19, iPadOS 19 and macOS 16 this Year

iOS 7 changed the look and feel of the iPhone, and the fundamentals of that change still live on to this day. The same thing happened on the Mac with macOS Big Sur.

According to a new report by Bloomberg, that’s about to happen again with iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16.

Right off the bat, visual design is going to be Apple’s big focus this year, rather than introducing new AI features.

Interestingly, we did get a glimpse of the new design overhaul a while back when we had a leak of the updated Camera app, which takes cues from visionOS.

The report says that the update is going to be so big that it will fundamentally change the look and feel of the operating systems and offer a more consistent cross-platform experience.

Another important thing here is this: Apple is not just going to change the icons and call it a day; it’s planning to change the way people use their devices and simplify things further.

The report does say that Apple is taking design cues from the Vision Pro and visionOS, but it will be more suited for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It’s not going to be a ripoff of Apple’s headset OS.

I personally believe the iPhone, iPad, and Mac have started to feel a little outdated on the design end. New features are great, but sometimes a change of paint and improved underlying structure is a far better improvement than originally thought.

Even though Apple has shipped a bunch of great customization features in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, fundamentally, it looks the same as last year, the one before it, and so on.

This massive overhaul should help Apple tap into new users who need solid reason to be lured in, and a design overhaul should be that thing.

WWDC 2025 is just around the corner, and June is going to reveal everything there is to this news.
