iOS 19 is going to receive a big redesign and the Messages app with said redesign has been shown on video.

New Leak Shows Messages App from iOS 19 and its Polarizing Redesign

Jon Prosser shared a mockup of the iOS 19 Messages app based on his sources, and it’s quite polarizing. At first, it might not seem like much, but once you look closer, you start to realize things have changed.

For starters, you’ll notice the rather off-putting-looking Back and FaceTime buttons at the top. The keyboard has been slightly redesigned too, especially the curved lines around the suggested words.

You’ll notice an unnecessary amount of fake gloss around edges as well, which I’m assuming is going to react to motion when you move your iPhone around, maybe?

The chat bubbles seem unchanged, at least they appear to be, and so do the battery and cellular indicators on the top.

But, I think I’m being too harsh on this redesign because iOS 19 hasn’t even been announced yet, and Apple is yet to reveal it in June at WWDC 2025. Till then, a lot of things can change.

The above leak is likely based on an extremely early internal build of iOS 19, and there’s a high chance it may not look anything like what you see above once it’s revealed officially.

The leak appears on the Genius Bar podcast, and you can skip to the iOS 19 leak by jumping to the 42:50 timestamp.

Previously, we got to see a mockup of the Camera app from iOS 19 as well. That felt more like an overhaul than the Messages app.
