How do you attach the Apple Pencil to iPad? Tip side facing the volume buttons or the charging port?

Apple Pencil Pointing Up, Down, Left or Right When Attached to iPad? It’s a Personal Preference, Nothing Else

Which way the Apple Pencil points when you attach it to iPad is perhaps the most trivial thing known to mankind. The truth is, it does not matter one bit.

But, turns out, a lot of people are convinced that there is a right way and wrong way.

The right way to attach Apple Pencil to iPad is to have the tip pointing downwards, or to the right, or away from the volume buttons.

The wrong way is the other way around.

I believe there is no right or wrong way. It’s just a preference and how you feel comfortable with it.

For example, if you’re right-handed, the Apple Pencil tip facing downwards, or to the right, if the Magic Keyboard is connected makes sense. Because you don’t have to monkey around with your fingers to get the Pencil up and ready for writing.

If you’re left-handed, then attaching Apple Pencil the ‘wrong way’ makes perfect sense as long as you’re using a Magic Keyboard.

However, I went to Apple’s website and scoured through each and every single image there is with Apple Pencil attached to iPad. Every image shows Apple Pencil attached the ‘right way.’

Here are some examples:

However, there is an image on Apple’s website of iPad Air that shows Apple Pencil Pro connected the wrong way.

I’m not going to choose sides and say which one is right or wrong. But I’ll say this: it does not matter and it does not affect the way you charge your Apple Pencil.
