The wait is coming to an end, and Apple will likely announce the new M4 MacBook Air models as early as this week.

Current MacBook Air Inventory Almost Depleted, New M4 Model Likely Launching this Week

With the M4 chip around for quite a while now, it is yet to make its way to all of Apple’s products. This includes the MacBook Air.

Though the notebook has been rumored to arrive in the time frame we’re in, Mark Gurman, in his weekly newsletter, says the announcement will likely happen this week.

He says that the inventory of the current MacBook Air is extremely low and that Apple is preparing for a Mac-related announcement within the coming days.

If you put those pieces of the puzzle together, it seems likely that the company is going to announce the MacBook Air this week, if anything else.

We can expect two models of the MacBook Air to be announced. One with a 13-inch display, and the other with a 15-inch one.

Since MacBook Air is all about portability, it’s safe to assume that the smaller model is going to be more popular since it offers excellent value for money.

In terms of performance, we might not see massive gains, but enough to entice buyers from older MacBook Air models to upgrade. A recent graphics benchmark did give us a glimpse into what we can expect, with Metal scores touching 55,516.

Other notable upgrades may include the ability to get the notebook with a nano-texture glass, a brand new 12-megapixel Center Stage camera and Thunderbolt 4 ports.

In terms of design, nothing is going to change, but I’ll be surprised if Apple keeps the Midnight finish around for another generation.

Some say it’s the best finish around, but for me, it’s a fingerprint magnet, no matter what coating or treatment the finish goes through.

While each MacBook Air upgrade seems underwhelming, but for those who are holding onto notebooks that are at least two generations old, you can expect good things for you.
