Apple has started to test out OLED panels for the iPad mini, and they’re made by Samsung.
OLED iPad mini Could Feature Display Made by Samsung, Prototype Samples Sent to Apple
Rumors of Apple working on an iPad mini with an OLED display are nothing new. A recent rumor said iPad mini 8 will have an OLED display, and that Apple is actively working on it.
In fact, the 2026 iPad Air and iPad mini both are rumored to make the switch from LCD to OLED. While news about the iPad Air have certainly cooled down, but the iPad mini is back into the spotlight.
According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Apple is currently in the process of testing OLED panels from Samsung for use in the upcoming iPad mini. Details regarding refresh rate are unclear at this point.
But I’m guessing Apple is going to stick with a refresh rate of 60Hz.
Another interesting thing to note here is the size. The OLED panels Samsung has sent to Apple are 8 inches big, which is slightly smaller than the current 8.3-inch display used in the iPad mini 7.
I’m not sure what’s forcing Apple to make the iPad mini display smaller, but I’m going to take a guess and assume it has more to do with cost than anything else. But I could be wrong here.
However, it will be interesting to see if the bezels will get bigger or the iPad mini will shrink in size, if Apple does decide to go with an 8-inch display.
