Of all the updates Apple has released so far, iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 take the crown for being the most boring one.
If you’re looking for new features, there isn’t anything notable here. But Apple has been doing under-the-hood work to ensure a bug-free iPhone and iPad experience, and hopefully the 18.5 update will deliver on that effort.
Today though, you can download the second beta of the update over the air. And if you’ve been testing out beta 1 since last week, then it’s probably a good idea to download beta 2 right away.
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Launch Settings.
- Go to General > Software Update.
- Tap on Update Now when beta 2 shows up.
For me, the most important updates are those that focus on fixing bugs and improving performance. Right now, Apple and its users could use a lot of those.
Apple Intelligence hasn’t been the smoothest rollout, but iPhone and iPad users need a smooth-sailing operating system, rather than something that intrudes with a new bug with every release.
I am expecting Apple to release the final update sometime this month rather than delaying it a lot.
We should see the first public beta of iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 released this week too.
