Apple software rollouts used to be smooth and on time, then Apple Intelligence showed up and ruined everything.
Broken, Buggy and Pulled Updates Raises Huge Questions Over Apple’s Software Quality Lately
On Monday, Apple rolled out new software updates for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and HomePod. Even the AirPods got software updates.
Needless to say it was a busy day.
However, if you look at how things panned out, it was a mess.
Apple released watchOS 11.4 on Monday and immediately pulled the update, only to release it the next day once again.
Apple released the AirPods Max lossless audio update, and that update was pulled too. Why? Because it was buggy, though it’s available to download today with a new build number.
Then, iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 started downloading apps on iPhone and iPad which were previously deleted by users. This happened for some users and devices only, not everyone.
If you add all the Apple Intelligence troubles on top of this, you suddenly start to realize Scott Forstall’s era wasn’t this bad.
Everything was mostly fine before Apple Intelligence made an appearance. And while trying to fix the AI stuff, regular features are taking a toll; features used by the average customer that matter the most.
Apple is going to overhaul the iPhone, iPad, and Mac UI this year before it even manages to improve the quality of its current software.
I can’t even make a prediction about how this year is going to pan out at all.
