Though the internet finds this extremely surprising, I’m unmoved by the fact that the iPhone 17 Pro will go back to using Aluminum.
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will Switch Back to Aluminum, will Feature Larger, Rectangular Camera Bump
According to a report by The Information, the same one that talked about the iPhone 17 Slim just a while back, Apple is going to make significant changes to the design of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The significant change includes the use of an Aluminum frame, which means Apple is ditching Titanium completely next year. While some fans are going into a meltdown over this decision, I don’t see any problem with it at all.
See, Apple has been making Aluminum iPhones for years. Then, it switched to stainless steel with the iPhone X. Then, it went to using Titanium with the iPhone 15 Pro. And now, it’s going back to Aluminum.
Though people give Titanium a lot of praise for being tough, it barely takes a few minutes to go through social media and see how the material holds up without a case. Despite its tough credentials, it can be easily scratched.
Another advantage of using Aluminum is a very obvious one – aluminum is a lighter material compared to Titanium. This means Apple can make an extremely lighter iPhone compared to what it has on offer today.
The second big change coming to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max is an interesting one.
Apple is going to use a mix of Aluminum and glass at the back. Apparently, the top portion will be made of Aluminum with a significantly larger camera bump area, and the bottom will be glass to accommodate for wireless charging.
Another thing to note here is how the report says Apple’s camera bump is going to be larger and ‘rectangular’ instead of a square one.
Of all the details we’ve heard about the iPhone 17, the one from today is definitely an interesting one. If you picture the iPhone 17 Pro in your head just for a second, it immediately looks different from the back and truly stands out.
It will be interesting to see if Apple makes any design changes from the front as well. Sure, the display is at the front, but there is a chance the Dynamic Island may see a reduction in size.
