Competition is always great, and now that Android XR is official, it gives me hope for a better Vision headset future.
Google Gets on Board the Spatial Computing Bandwagon with Android XR, Exactly the Boost Vision Pro Needed
Meta Quest has been around for a while, but with the release of Vision Pro, everyone started to see Meta’s headset as a spatial computer more than a gaming-only headset.
Basically, Vision Pro gave the Meta Quest the boost it needed, that too at the right time.
Now with Google announcing its brand-new Android XR platform for mixed reality headsets and smart glasses, I’m glad the spatial computer ball is now properly rolling.
No matter how exciting this may sound, one thing is certain: the trip is going to be a long one. It will be a while before people start to put computers on their faces to get work done.
Samsung has even announced its Vision Pro competitor already that runs Android XR.
You may call it a Vision Pro copycat all you want, but this is exactly the sort of thing that is needed at this point in time. Vision Pro needs competition and it finally has it.
However, with Google’s knack for abandoning great ideas halfway through, I really wish it doesn’t do the same with Android XR.
Do you think the announcement of Android XR ensures a better future for Vision Pro?
