If you’re looking forward to the AirTag 2, you definitely should, because it is set to receive a massive range upgrade.

AirTag 2 Shaping up to be a Great Upgrade, Will Offer 3 Times the Range Compared to Current Model

The current AirTag is a fantastic item tracker. Even if you’re not within range of it, you can see where the tracker is on a map, thanks to support for Find My.

If you’re nearby and connected directly to the AirTag using your iPhone, you can use features like Precision Finding to get to where it is.

However, with AirTag 2, Apple is set to boost the range of the tracker by up to 3 times, thanks to the new ultra-wideband chip it is set to receive, according to Bloomberg.

What this basically means is, your iPhone will be able to connect to the AirTag from an even greater distance, which is far more effective compared to just finding it on a map using Find My.

However, with improved range comes improved material penetration too. This means using the AirTag in something like a wallet will allow users to track it more effectively even if it’s slightly away from you.

If you like to place your item trackers inside a pocket or a bag, and not hang them outside on a keychain, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Hiding a tracker deep within something sacrifices a ton of range, but hopefully, AirTag 2 is going to solve that problem by a factor of 3.

A previous report also shed light on Apple’s upcoming item tracker, saying that it will feature key improvements when it comes to privacy.
