M5 Macs are coming next year, and the release timeline has been detailed in a new report.

Expect the M5 to Go into Production in First Half of 2025, First Mac with Chip to Appear in Late 2025

Do keep in mind that Apple is not done rolling out all M4 Macs. We still have the M4 MacBook Air to look forward to, as well as the Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

However, the rumor mill focuses more on tomorrow rather than today. Ming-Chi Kuo has stepped in to give us a small glimpse into the M5 chip and how it will be rolled out next year.

Before you get too excited, be warned that the release pattern is going to be exactly the same as M4 and all chips before it.

Apple is going to kick things off with the M5 chip and it will go into mass production in early 2025. Once the ball is rolling, the M5 Pro will go into production, followed by the M5 Max.

The M5 Ultra is expected to hit the manufacturing line in 2026.

What this means is, the rollout may follow the same pattern as this year. We might see the chip in the MacBook Pro first, then the iMac (maybe), the Mac mini (maybe), and then everything else.

Though the report strictly focuses on the Mac and we do associate Apple silicon with Apple’s desktop platform, it will be interesting to see which device gets the M5 first.

Given the M4 made its debut on the iPad Pro, will Apple do the same next year as well?

Another thing to note here is that the M5 chip will be based on TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. This basically means the chips are still going to be based on the 3nm process, and we can expect efficiency and performance gains over the current M4 chips.

The report also suggests that Apple is going to use the M5 in its Apple Intelligence servers. But it will be a while the servers get this upgrade.
