Apple has been working on a completely bezel-less iPhone for a long time, but it may not be ready before 2026.
Technical Challenges is Keeping Apple from Releasing a Bezel-less iPhone Before 2026
The iPhone X was a monumental leap forward in terms of bezels. With time, Apple has done everything possible to reduce bezels around the display even further.
The ultimate plan is to get rid of bezels completely and ship an iPhone that is all-screen from the front, with no borders around it at all.
According to a report by TheElec, Apple may not be able to achieve that dream before 2026, and there are several reasons for that.
First and foremost, the technology to make a completely bezel-less iPhone the way Apple wants it is not there. Then there are issues with the adhesive being used and protection against drops when they happen.
Though some phone manufacturers have achieved the zero bezel look by curving the display around the edge, it creates a “magnifying glass effect” which Apple does not want on the iPhone.
There are a bunch of technical challenges which Apple has asked its suppliers to overcome. By 2026, who knows, we might just see an all-screen iPhone.
It will be interesting to see how Apple plans to tackle accidental touches around the edges of the display, too. This is the sort of thing software wizardry is going to handle perfectly.
Given the pace at which technology changes, I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple manages to achieve its 2026 target. All eyes are going to be on the iPhone 18 from now on.
