A new report suggests that iPhone 17 will adopt a new design process, allowing for a smooth transition between edges and rear panel.

Curved Sides are Returning with the iPhone 17 Lineup, Thanks to a New Process for Blending Glass and Metal Together

The goal is to create an iPhone that feels like it was made from a single slab of material, though it will have multiple – glass and metal.

According to a post on Weibo, Apple has come up with a manufacturing technique that allows it to create the iPhone 17 with glass and metal, and the transition between the two will be completely seamless.

In other words, you won’t feel a straight edge at all.

Currently, if you pick up any iPhone at all, though it feels smooth around the edges, you can easily tell you’re going from glass to metal – you can definitely feel the transition point.

Apple aims to remove that completely with iPhone 17, and apparently it is all set to do it later this year.

Rumors say that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature an aluminum body with glass. Even the back of the iPhone will be partially aluminum, where we will find the camera bump.

The back will still be mostly glass to make room for wireless charging.

Some reports even suggest that Apple will not drop the use of Titanium at all, but honestly, who cares about that since you’re not getting any proper advantage out of the premium material anyway.

I would rather have an aluminum phone that is built more durable than titanium that is nothing more than a flex.

Aside from the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 itself, Apple is also going to release the iPhone 17 Air which is said to be the thinnest iPhone to date – just 6.25mm.

The Air is said to feature Apple’s 5G modem and a single camera at the back. The company may even drop the second speaker to make room for components in a thin space.

The iPhone 17 Air will be more of a ‘concept’ phone that will give consumers a hint of what’s to come in the future.
