Apple silicon is set to go into mass production for the first time in the United States, according to a recent report.

Apple Silicon Manufacturing Coming to the United States, Starting with iPhone

TSMC’s plant near Phoenix, Arizona, has been doing a test production of Apple silicon chips for a while now, according to Nikkei.

However, mass production of the chips will likely happen this quarter.

At the moment, Apple is performing quality-related checks on the test batch, assuring they are up to the mark in terms of performance. If everything is in the green, we will start seeing these chips in our iPhones soon.

But wait, before you get too excited, it’s important to know where these chips are exactly going.

They will be used in the iPhone, but most likely the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. I’m talking about the A16 Bionic here, none of the latest stuff like the A18 or A18 Pro.

It seems as though Apple isn’t ready to manufacture chips for its flagship models such as iPhone 16 just yet. And it makes sense, too. If it runs into some issue, at least it won’t be on its best-selling models.

Slowly and gradually, Apple has been moving manufacturing away from China. This is the first time an iPhone chip will be manufactured in the United States, which is a pretty big deal for Apple.

It is also believed that this plant will be responsible for manufacturing the S9 chip for the Apple Watch Ultra 2 as well.
