What an incredible move by Apple. The company has released firmware updates for every single AirPods model in a single day.
New Firmware Updates Released for All AirPods Models including the OG from 2016
Usually, Apple will throw in a couple of updates for AirPods from time to time in order to fix bugs and add some enhancements. But today, the company is really, really outdoing itself by releasing firmware updates for the entire AirPods lineup. When I say entire, I mean entire. The lineup that starts from the OG AirPods going all the way to the latest USB-C AirPods Pro.
First and foremost, you can’t force this update to your AirPods at all. This update will automatically install in the background. It’s best to leave your AirPods on charge and close to your iPhone. Usually that helps with the update process, but really, there’s nothing else you can do.
Apple hasn’t said a word regarding the update, but given how it’s available for every single AirPods model to date, I’m expecting it’s definitely something important.
If you want to manually check which version of the firmware you’re currently running, there’s a way to do that. Make sure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone or iPad, then go to Settings > tap on your AirPods at the very top > scroll down to the ‘About’ section and check ‘Version.’
In case you’re wondering, the AirPods 1 have been updated to version 6.8.8. AirPods 2, 3, Pro 1 and Max have been updated to version 6A326 whereas the AirPods Pro 2 with Lightning and USB-C have been updated to 6.5.8 (6F8).
