Turns out, Apple is working on the Studio Display 2, and it will have a Mini LED panel and is set for launch in late 2025.
Studio Display 2 Coming Later this Year with Mini LED Upgrade
Apple’s Studio Display found itself to be a popular choice among Mac users; however, it’s not perfect in any way.
Chances are, Apple’s external display feels like a downgrade when you connect it to something like a MacBook Pro. After all, Apple’s pro laptop does feature a better display, thanks to features like Mini LED and ProMotion.
The only real advantage you get with Studio Display is the larger 27-inch panel, instantly giving you more room for more apps and windows.
Hopefully, all of that will change with the Studio Display 2 which is reportedly set for launch later this year.
According to Ross Young on X, Apple is going to upgrade the Studio Display to Mini LED, and those Mini LEDs will be supplied by Epistar while LG Display is tasked with providing the panels.
The one thing that absolutely sweeten the deal is the use of a higher refresh rate panel but it seems as though Apple is not ready to take that route with Studio Display just yet.
I believe Mini LED alone is a big enough feature for most users. You’ll instantly notice the difference in contrast the second you look at it. Don’t believe me? Just look at the MacBook Pro or the Pro Display XDR.
The display size likely won’t change, but it would be nice if Apple manages to trim the bezels around the panel for a more modern aesthetic. Rounded corners would be a nice touch as well.
