Apple Says the iPhone 16e is for Everyone, but the ‘e’ in the Name Stands for Nothing
The internet went crazy yesterday after the iPhone 16e name. Everyone had an idea what the ‘e’ stands for. From serious suggestions to outright memes. It was pure gold.
However, you’ll be surprised to learn that the ‘e’ in iPhone 16e actually means nothing.
Daring Fireball’s John Gruber chimed in and says the following:
In an online press briefing today, when asked whether the E stands for anything, an Apple rep said no, it does not stand for anything, but that it’s built for everyone.
If that thought kept you up all night, now you know what the ‘e’ stands for. Absolutely nothing.
It’s not surprising at all. I remember the iPhone XR went through the same thing, and Apple never said what it was about.
Same goes for the iPhone SE, where a lot of people believed that it meant ‘special edition.’ But there was nothing special about the iPhone SE at all.
