You can now set ChatGPT Search as the default search engine in Safari on your iPhone and iPad. Here’s how to set it up now.

Let AI Handle Your Queries in Safari by Setting ChatGPT Search as Default on Your iPhone and iPad

You can change the default search engine on your iPhone and iPad right now. It’s a pretty easy process and lets you decide which service you want to use in the backend for your search queries.

The problem is, you only get a handful of options when it comes to search engines. Thankfully, a recent update to the ChatGPT app changes that for the better.

If you download and install the official ChatGPT app on your iPhone or iPad, it also comes with a Safari Extension that lets you perform searches using ChatGPT Search, OpenAI’s very-own search engine endeavor.

While this sounds great, but there is one thing you should keep in mind – you can only use it within Safari, nowhere else on your iPhone and iPad. This means whenever you type in a search query in the Safari toolbar and hit Go on the keyboard, it will redirect you to ChatGPT Search.

Sounds good? Is this what you want? Great! Let’s set it up.

Step 1. Make sure you have the ChatGPT app installed on your iPhone or iPad.

Step 2. Launch the Settings app.

Step 3. Scroll all the way down and tap on Apps.

Step 4. Find Safari and open it.

Step 5. Scroll down a little and find Extension. Open it.

Step 6. Right at the top you should see ChatGPT Search. Tap on it to open.

Step 7. Enable the Allow Extension toggle switch. It’s up to you whether you want to use it in Private Browsing as well. Leave it as it is if you don’t.

Step 8. Launch Safari and search for anything in the toolbar. It will take you to ChatGPT Search.

You might want to force close Safari and launch it again if search isn’t seeming to be working. After all, it’s software you’re dealing with, and it won’t be perfect in one go.

One last thing, you can’t perform unlimited searches using ChatGPT; there’s a limit to it if you’re using a free account. I am assuming you already knew that. If you didn’t, be careful while going overboard with searches.
