Want to multitask and keep on talking to ChatGPT at the same time? Here’s how you can enable the feature right now on iPhone.
ChatGPT for iPhone Becomes Insanely Useful with Brand New ‘Background Conversations’ Feature – Here’s How You Can Enable it Now
The official ChatGPT app for iPhone just learned a brand new trick where you can keep on talking to the AI chatbot while you’re multitasking or using another app. In fact, you can keep on talking to ChatGPT even if the phone’s display is off.
This update was rolled out just now and all you need to do is update to the latest version of the app and then follow the steps outlined below:
Step 1. Launch the ChatGPT app.
Step 2. Swipe right on the main screen to reveal more options.
Step 3. Tap the ‘three dots’ icon on the bottom to reveal app related options.
Step 4. Under the ‘Voice Mode’ section, simply enable the ‘Background Conversations’ feature as shown in the screenshot below:
Tap on the mic icon right next to the text box and swipe up to put the app in the background, you can keep the conversation going. This truly feels like how it should work, rather than being sandboxed inside the app.
iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are all set to be announced next week and we’re constantly hearing rumors that Apple has some AI tricks up its sleeve. But it remains to be seen whether Siri will see massive benefits from it. There is a chance Apple might leave its audience on read by simply announcing generative features mostly, nothing more. If that’s the case, this ChatGPT background conversation feature should fill in that void.
We sincerely hope Siri gets an upgrade, though. It’s been far too long. It just hurts to see every other assistant racing past Siri, especially in 2024.
