YouTube for iPhone is getting a new feature that will use artificial intelligence to help you skip through the boring part of a video.
New ‘Jump Ahead’ Feature for YouTube Will Use AI to Skip Boring Parts of a Video, Rolling Out for iPhone Now
Ever come across a video where the host is talking a little too much? Recall your favorite podcast and the massive intro before the guest comes on and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
YouTube knows you’ll skip through parts like these and it is now adding a new feature to its app called ‘Jump Ahead.’ Using previous data available to YouTube, it knows how many people skipped the boring part and went to the exciting one.
When you’re skipping through the video by double tapping on the right side of the video player, you’ll see a button appear called ‘Jump Ahead.’ Press it and you’ll be taken to the exciting part of the video.
Keep in mind that this feature is already available on Android and will be rolling out on iPhone in the coming days and weeks. Also, this is a YouTube Premium feature only. If you’re using the regular, free version of YouTube, you won’t be able to use Jump Ahead. But, here’s to hoping that this feature becomes widely available to everyone around the globe, and not just Premium users.
YouTube explicitly states that this feature may not be available on all videos. There’s a chance you may have this feature already and you haven’t come across a video that actually has Jump Ahead implemented. Don’t worry, you’ll ultimately get to experience it.
Here’s the official video explaining how the feature works:
Though this is an amazing feature and I’ll probably end up using it a lot, but it could be a bad sign for creators, too. See, the feature works by skipping the boring parts, and if a video has too many boring parts, then more hard work is needed. At the same time, it’s a great way to improve yourself, too.
