It’s here. Beta 4 of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 is now available for iPhone and iPad users enrolled in Apple’s developer program.
iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Developer Beta 4 Now Available to Download – Packed with Bug Fixes and Improvements
Just like any previous beta of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, you can expect a ton of bug fixes and enhancements in today’s release. Hopefully, Apple was able to squash some major bugs and improve third-party app experiences. It’s still beta software – expect it to be rough around the edges.
Anyway, you should go ahead and download iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 beta right now. Simply go to Settings > General > Software Update and wait for the page to refresh. The beta will show up in a few seconds and you can install it right away by tapping on the ‘Update Now’ button. Beta updates can be slow to download and install, but you’ll get there eventually. Once installed, you can start using your device normally.
If there are noteworthy changes in this update, I will write a separate article on it, so stay tuned for that. When we are four betas deep into the software’s lifecycle, changes tend to become less and less obvious, so don’t be surprised if there are no noticeable changes in today’s update.
At this point, you can expect a lot of stability to the software compared to the initial release. It’s stable enough for great app experiences on a daily basis, but can cause issues in places like battery life. This is the one thing that will be resolved when the full and final version of iOS 18 is released later this year and apps get their ‘now compatible with iOS 18’ updates. Before that, don’t expect magic to happen.
macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18, watchOS 11 and visionOS 2 got their beta 4 updates today as well. Be sure to update all your Apple devices on which you have beta software installed.
