Apple is finally going after services like LastPass and 1Password with a dedicated app called Passwords. Expect an announcement at WWDC 2024 next week.
Apple is Going After 1Password and LastPass’s Lunch with its Dedicated Passwords App for iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15
According to a fresh new report from Bloomberg, Apple is going to announce a brand new app next week called Passwords. As the name suggests, it is going to be the go-to place for storing passwords for websites, apps, Wi-Fi networks and more. The will be available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15.
The news doesn’t end there – Apple has really, really thought this one through as you will be able to import your existing passwords from services like LastPass and 1Password. If Apple ever convinces you to ditch your favorite password manager for theirs, a simple import option is going to get everything done instantly. And just like the best password managers out there, your data will be safe and secure and will be protected using Face ID and Touch ID, obviously.
Currently, there is a ‘Passwords’ option buried deep inside iOS and iPadOS where everything is saved but having a dedicated Passwords app makes more sense at this point in time. Let’s face it, we are constantly signing into new services from time to time and our online presence is spreading like wild fire and a dedicated password manager from Apple fits right in.
For me, while this is exciting news, I want Apple to work on making iOS, iPadOS and macOS a stable operating system for day to day tasks. For example, Stage Manager and multitasking is a huge mess. The mouse pointer in macOS stops working in Safari from time to time. There are a ton of things that need fixing before the company hops on to new stuff.
