I don’t think there are words to describe how good the M3 MacBook Air is, but I’ll try my best to explain why.
M3 MacBook Air is the Perfect Laptop and I am Glad I Skipped Getting that MacBook Pro
When I started this website, I wanted a laptop that would do it all. The MacBook Pro was an obvious choice because it was giving me head-room for things I had planned for the future, which includes video content.
But, at the time of purchase, I realized everything the MacBook Pro was offering extra over the Air was ‘just in case’ so I just got the M3 MacBook Air with a little bit of buyer’s remorse.
My main work involves typing, and here I am doing just that. Image editing goes along with the typing I do, and Pixelmator Pro flies through everything I’ve done so far. You’d expect this laptop to slow down in some obscure corner of macOS, but nothing like that has happened so far.
When I started making small video clips for social media, I thought to myself, maybe this is going to bring the M3 MacBook Air to its knees. It did not, and I’m yet to see it stutter somewhere. I shoot videos in 4K 30 frames-per-second on my Sony A7 III in the highest bitrate possible, even that isn’t enough to slow this laptop down. It makes me glad I didn’t get that MacBook Pro at all otherwise it would have just gone to waste on me.
Even the battery life is beyond great. It absolutely takes care of the user no matter what kind of day you have. We had a power outage after a heavy spell of rain and the MacBook Air was at around 50% at the time when lights went out. It was the perfect test for the laptop and I wanted to see how far I can push it. The power was out for six hours and I was using the notebook for my regular work routine for writing, creating images, editing videos, photos, you name it. The battery? 18% when power came back.
The battery even supports fast charging at 70 watts. Even if you drain it, this laptop charges up fast. At 70W, you can charge it from zero to 50% in 30 minutes. Just get a fast power bank and you’ll have the power situation sorted out forever.
Though the display is just 60Hz, I never wished it had ProMotion, because once you’re immersed into the work you’re doing, you forget about those fast moving pixels. Even though I have a 120Hz iPad Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, 60Hz is just fine on the MacBook Air. When the laptop excels at everything else, fast refresh rates just don’t matter.
Fast forward to this day and I am super glad I never got that MacBook Pro. The money I saved not getting the MacBook Pro was used towards useful accessories such as a carrying case, a fast power bank and more.
If I ever upgrade the MacBook Air, I’ll buy it again, but this time the 15-inch model. What’s better than a MacBook Air? A bigger MacBook Air, that’s what.
The next time you are out buying a MacBook, just ask yourself – do I need this because it helps me out, or is it a ‘just in case’ thing? You’ll suddenly realize the M3 MacBook Air is perfect for you, too.
