Want to type bold, italic or add a strikethrough on a word or sentance in WhatsApp for iPhone? Let me show you how – it’s super easy.
WhatsApp Lets You Type in Bold, Italic or Add Strikethrough on a Word or Sentence – Pick up Your iPhone and I’ll Show You How
I’m sure you’ve been using WhatsApp for a long time at this point. It has become the go-to cross platform instant messaging app for millions of people around the world and that number will keep on growing even if your refrigerator supports RCS tomorrow. People absolutely swear by it, and there’s nothing that will change that. So let’s not argue over it at all.
Every once in a while a friend or family member will send you a text message on WhatsApp that is either bold, italic or has a strikethrough in it. It’s a great way to emphasize on something and get the point across without sending a photo, video or audio message. If you ever wondered how they do that, it’s actually very easy.
Bold
If you want to type bold in WhatsApp, all you have to do is add an asterisk at the start and end of a word or sentence. For example: *I am pretty cool with this*. When you hit send, the other person will see the entire sentence as bold.
Italic
Typing italic is easy, too. Just add an underscore at the start and end of a word or sentence. For example: _This is exactly what we need_. Hit send once you’re done.
Strikethrough
Last but not the least, adding a strikethrough is easy as well. Just add a tilde at the start and end of a word or sentence. For example: I am ~probably~ most likely not coming tomorrow. The strikethrough will be added on the word ‘probably.’
If you’re a slow typer like me, then you probably have all the time in the world to make your text rich before sending it over. But honestly, many people don’t care about such things unless they’re writing up formal text messages.
Either way, it’s a feature that is great to have for times when you actually need to use it. For other times, the plain old text message works just fine.
