There’s an update waiting for download on your Apple TV – it’s tvOS 18 public beta 6 and you should install it right away.

tvOS 18 is probably the most chill part of Apple’s software lineup. It doesn’t walk through walls with its features yet somehow manages to be extremely important in a particular way.
Right now, you can download tvOS 18 public beta 6, and I recommend installing it right away. Here’s what you need to do:
- Launch the ‘Settings’ app on your Apple TV.
- Scroll down and open ‘System.’
- Here’s you’ll see ‘Software Update.’ Click to open it.
- Install tvOS 18 public beta 6 from here.
Those testing out public beta 5 should install the update as soon as possible. Once the update is installed, you should experience increased reliability of your Apple TV. If there are lingering issues with HomeKit, they should be resolved with this update, too.
Speaking of HomeKit, that’s exactly what makes tvOS 18 so important. It’s the gateway between you and your smart home setup. When you’re out and about, it keeps you connected to everything at home. If tvOS fumbles, you lose access to everything that’s happening in the premises of your smart home.
tvOS is also tasked with making backups of footage from your security cameras to Apple’s servers. Like I said, it might be a chill update, yet it’s an extremely important one. There’s no way you should ignore it in any way. As soon as you get time, make sure you update that Apple TV to the latest public beta release, provided you are testing the update in the first place.
