The new visionOS 2 software update has been announced at WWDC 2024. Here’s everything that is new.
The First-Ever Major visionOS 2 Update for Vision Pro Announced at WWDC 2024 – Check Out What’s New
It’s been four months since Vision Pro was released and visionOS 2 has already been announced. What’s new? Starting with the Photos app.
Convert Regular Photos to Spatial Photos
Using advanced machine learning, visionOS 2 converts your current photos to spatial ones, giving you a truly immersive experience compared to boring old 2D photos. It’s amazing.
New Gestures
Turn your palm towards your face and pinch and you’ll get right into the Home Screen. Want to see the battery life? Just turn turn your hand around and you’ll instantly see the remaining battery life and time.
Wider Mac External Display
The Vision Pro can now let you turn your Mac’s display ultra wide. You’re no longer limited to the aspect ratio of your Mac. But wait, you can make the display as wide as you want. It’s nuts and the best thing ever for those who use their Vision Pro exclusively as a monitor for the Mac.
Train Mode
Now you can use your Vision Pro inside a train just like how you would on a plane with a brand new Train Mode. If you’re a train traveler more than an airplane one, this one’s for you.
SharePlay for Photos
This is a big one, allowing you watch your photos and videos with friends and family members using the SharePlay protocol. It’s the best way to experience things like panoramas, especially.
New Bora Bora Environment
You’re not limited to using the Vision Pro in passthrough mode. You can use it in a virtual environment, too. Apple is throwing in a new Bora Bora virtual environment, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature while you stay productive.
Vision Pro as AirPlay Receiver
This is definitely a fun one, as you can now use the Vision Pro as an AirPlay receiver. If someone wants to show you a photo, video or anything at all, they can do it right on your Vision Pro, no need to take off the headset at all. It’s like having a massive TV screen attached to your face.
Developer Features
There are updates to how developers create amazing new app experiences. As a user, this thing shouldn’t bother you that much, but developers can now create brilliant new apps and experiences which you should look forward to.
visionOS 2 Release Date
Though Apple hasn’t said anything yet, but it’s safe to assume that this update will be available to all Vision Pro users in September. There is a chance Apple might change their plan.
