Just like the iPhone, third-party app stores are coming to the iPad in the EU as well. The date? 16th of September.
Ready to Download Apps from Third-Party App Stores on Your iPad? It’s Happening on Monday in the EU
If that date sounds familiar to you, it’s because it is. That’s the big day Apple is going to roll out iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to every single compatible iPhone and iPad device around the world. In the EU, things are going to be very different as third-party app stores are coming to iPadOS.
Apple is doing this in order to comply with DMA. Once third-party app stores become available on iPad, Apple’s tablet will come on par with the iPhone, finally. But, that’s not where the fun ends.
See, in the EU, the iPhone and iPad are going to be very different devices compared to the rest of the world. The iPhone, for example, is getting a dedicated default apps section in the Settings app with iOS 18. This means users will be able to replace almost every single app with a third-party counterpart. In fact, you can take it a mile further by deleting the App Store completely and use a third-party store for apps and games.
If you want more details on this, be sure to head over to Apple’s website.
