Apple has released a new tvOS 18.1 beta 2 for Apple TV users. You can download it today.
tvOS 18.1 Beta 2 is Now Available for Download – Registered Developers Can Install it Today
tvOS lives in a world of its own. Whenever Apple announces a new update for it, the company doesn’t go through the trouble of creating a dedicated ‘Preview’ page on its website. Instead, it sticks to one press release and we have to go with it for the rest of the year.
Today, Apple is moving the tvOS 18 bandwagon one step further by issuing a brand new beta – tvOS 18.1 beta 2. Those who have installed beta 1 can now download tvOS 18.1 beta 2 right now.
Here’s what you have to do:
- Turn on your Apple TV.
- Launch the ‘Settings’ app and then go to System > Software Updates.
- Open ‘Update Software.’
- If there’s a new software update available, it will show up here. Simply install it right away.
I don’t really see the point of installing tvOS 18.1 beta at all, unless you are an enthusiast and want to test out each and every single software update Apple releases. The final version of tvOS 18.1 will be available some time in October, which is not too far from today.
From what I can tell, the update seems to be limited to bug fixes and other under-the-hood improvements. If you are looking for something drastically new, Apple has already given you everything with the release of tvOS 18.0.
Apple is only going to roll out some features which it missed with the initial release, including support for 21:9 output when connected to a projector. I’m pretty sure you are connected to a regular 16:9 display hence this feature won’t concern a majority of the Apple TV user-base.
